• Introduction consists of 28 pages;
• Therapeutics consists of 229 pages;
• Repertory consists of 82 pages;
Is a wonderful book on fever (not only for intermittent fever but also it gives valuable insight for all types of fevers). In the introductory part author elaborately describes on various theories prevailing at that time regarding the causation of intermittent fever, which was one of the dreadful disease causing lot of morbidity and mortality during Hahnemanian time. Even for Hahnemann to discover the theory of similia intermittent fever was instrumental. Author explains different theories which were prevailing at that time as causation of intermittent fever.
• Intermittent fever is caused due to neurosis, and drugs which act on cerebrospinal system suitable for this condition;
• The germs theory;
• The marsh miasm (malarial theory).

About the Author

|
Henry C. Allen was born October 2, 1836 in the village of Nilestown, near London Ontario. He was a descendant of the Revolutionary War hero, Ethan Allen. He studied medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario, Canada and received his homeopathic training at Western Homeopathic College (AKA Cleveland Homeopathic College) in Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated in 1861. After his graduation, he entered the Union Army, serving as a surgeon under General Ulysses S. Grant. After the Civil War Allen accepted the professorship of Anatomy at Cleveland and first started the practice of medicine. He later resigned this post to accept the same chair at the Hahnemann Medical College of Chicago. In 1875 he moved to Detroit and was appointed Professor of Materia Medica at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1880. In 1892 Allen helped found the Hering Medical College and was Dean and Professor of Materia Medica until his death. During his tenure, he was respected and loved as few men are during their lives. Allen was a member of several homeopathic societies including the AIH, IHA, and ones in England and India. In fact, Allen remained a member of the AIH to the end, where he upheld Hahnemannian principles, particularly in materia medica at their meetings and discussions. He was owner and editor of the Medical Advance for many years. Dr. Allen sustained his youthfulness and vitality in his later years. Even into his seventies he was as active and as physically vigorous as men half his age. Known for his quick wit he was welcomed at gatherings for his lively repartee and engaging anecdotes. Dr. Allen passed away on January 22, 1909 after working all day and seeing patients in the evening. Until his last days he was constantly working for the benefit of homeopathy.

Introduction:

And he beautifully explains the examination of patient, the importance of individualization not only by taking general symptoms but also particular symptoms specific to the intermittent fever like symptoms occurring before chill, heat, sweat and apyrexia.
The time of occurrence of paroxysm, the parts of the body where chill begins, regularity/irregularity of stages, the degree or absence of thirst and time of its appearance as well as constitutional ailment aroused by fever must all be carefully noted.

The Genus Epidemicus:
Genus Epidemicus is derived by observing the complex of symptoms peculiar to all patients on that particular epidemic, this common character will be found to point out the homoeopathic remedy for all cases in general.
This remedy will also relieve the patients who previous to this epidemic had enjoyed good health and were free from developed psora.
When to administer the remedy?
Time of administration of remedy is very important in intermittent fever. Generally remedy will be more effective when it is administered after the paroxysm or when patient is partially recovered from it.
Then he states about the similimum, the potency, characteristics of intermittent fever and the clinical cases. The cases are given under each drug in materia medica section.
