Drug Proving of new unproven drug prepared from Methi seeds ( Common name- Fenugreek, Botanical name –Trigonella foenum graeceum)

Drug Proving of Methi seeds was conducted as part of continuous research at D Y Patil Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre, Pune.

This research was conducted in collaboration with SBL Pvt Ltd. Medicines of 30 C and 200 C potency of Methi seeds was procured from SBL. 15 Interns of D Y Patil Homoeopathic Medical College participated in Drug Proving.

Drug Proving was conducted according to the guidelines given by Central Council of Research in Homoeopathy, for a period of 1 year.

Summary of set of signs and symptoms of 15 Provers :

Mind: 200 C -Irritability feeling (3) with complaints,Irritable at trifles,Cried bitterly and uncontrolled at small trifles-happy and sad incidences, once started to cry couldn’t stop ,Small things hurt

30C - Loss of concentration : sometimes cannot remember a specific word, or where an object is kept

Head: 200C -getting up from sleep Dull feeling (1,1) < exertion ,evening > pressure, heaviness (1), with irritable feeling , Intense headache, throbbing sensation (3) < open air, < light; with watery coryza ,Continuous headache in morning after getting up, Headache, frontal and periorbital region, throbbing type, < morning (dull-1) >evening and pressure ,? A/F from continuous writing, slight headache,(1) tired feeling

Slight vertigo, slept till 6pm,Vertigo > morning,Hairfall in bunches, < washing of hair, combing

Headache, severe pain on vertex < slight motion relieved by passing stools at night, > sitting and lying

Frontal,temples and occipital headache soon after

30C - Rt side- slight pain ,Left side- pain from left eyebrow to mastoid, > pressure and balm (1, - in noon)

Whole head-Pain :dull aching type < morning, Throbbing type –intense (3) > eating, Heaviness >sleep, in morning (1,1),Frontal – Dull, continuous pain subsided by night, Vertex: Pain-pressing type ceased on sitting and relaxing > pressure, , Least motion

Eyes: 200C - Feeling stressed,Pain in orbital region > pressure,Burning sensation with Hot lachrymation

Eye strain, with desire to sleep, drowsiness,Eye strain, supraorbital pain > pressure

-? A/F from A/F traveling, eyes felt strained

? A/F exposure to sunlight pain along and below the eyebrow continuous writing

Mouth: 200 C -Redness and soreness of gums (1), painful, sensitivity increased > pressure,Can’t eat/drink-Hot/cold food,Gums swollen, pain, sensitivity increased > pressure

30C- Dryness with increased thirst,Tongue: stomatitis (Rt side) pain while eating.

Stomach:
200 C -Pain after eating food-colicky, > rest, Slight pain till night,No desire to eat any food

Appetite reduced, hollow feeling in abdomen,No desire to eat, diarrhoea the next day

30C - Felt hungry very early

Abdomen: 200 C - Dull pain at night for 2 hrs relieved after sometime without medication

Dull pain in morning with loose motions 4/5/day ,Urge to defecate immediately after eating (1-symptoms subsided the next evening), (3-couldn’t wait, severe pain in lower abdomen),Bowel movement not satisfactory,Abdomen heaviness

30C -Hypogastrium:severe colicky pain (1) >lying on the abdomen, Loose motions

Pain< eating, > Passing stools,rt Hypochondrium: Severe pain < eating, in noon

Uncomfortable feeling < eating,Discomfort after dinner, couldn’t eat much

Pain < before stools,Distention with urge to pass stools,Loud rumbling sound < morning

Rectum: 200 C - Constipated in morning, stools difficult to defecate with slight bleeding and intense burning at anus, Pain only during defecation,Loose motions –stools watery, yellow offensive , food >after passing stools with weakness and prostration and trembling of fingers,Couldn’t wait to pass stools, severe pain in lower abdomen, loose stools night and morning

30C - Stools soft, in small pieces,Loose motions 2/day < eating

Stools slimy watery (3-with tenesmus),Stools immediately after breakfast and lunch

Has to wait a long time to defecate, no strain or pain,Unsatisfactory feeling after stools, urge many times < eating, no desire to eat (1,1,1)

Female Genital: 200 C -Menses preponed by 4 days(1-with severe pain in lower abdomen and thighs)

Dysmenorrhoea

30C -Vagina – itching < warmth, sweat > dryness and cold water

Respiratory Tract: 200C - Breathlessness on exertion,A/F fasting Pain in spots all over abdomen and chest

30C - Cough-continuous for ¾ minutes in morning,Cough with no expectoration

Generals: 200C - A/F exposure to cold air,Dull feeling with decreased appetite (1) and desire to sleep

Weakness after fever and dehydration and dullness,feeling dull in morning, no desire to do any work, desire to lie down, Weakness and prostration and trembling of fingers after loose stools with dull feeling

Tired feeling (1) -no desire to do any work, tired by doing daily routine work,Bodyache on getting up in the morning- no refreshing feeling,Felt refreshed in the morning,Slight uneasiness after getting up early in morning-pain in bones, back, through out the day, weakness increased later on decreased till 10 pm

30C -Weakness-dull feeling, didn’t feel like doing any work,Weak in the morning-no desire to get up
Heaviness of whole body,? A/F drinking cold water, Bodyache (1) From nape of neck,to left arm,joints painful (noon to 3 pm) > pressure, > flexing fingers,> wrist movements,Whole bodyache –intense throbbing pain > pressure,Hands, legs and Face hot to touch,Tired,General weakness, no desire to work (1), or study/eat, no freshness, desire to lie down, on lying down no desire to get up
