Who decides whether the book is fit for publishing or not?
B. Jain has a qualified editorial department that handles the manuscripts. They then review the books themselves and also send it to the advisors for their expert comment. The reach and the potential sale are taken into consideration while selecting a manuscript.

How much time does it take to publish once the book is selected?
Once the complete manuscript is received, it takes 6-10 months in getting the book published. This much period is required, for Editorial & Marketing work. The author’s positive response at the proof reading stage helps in early completion.

How much revenue does an author get from sales of translation rights?
For all royalties received from the sale of translation rights, 40% is paid to the authors.

Can the author also buy books from the publisher?
The author gets few books free from the publisher. If the author still requires more books, he may buy from the publisher at the distributor’s price.

When are the royalties paid?
In case of percentage method the royalties are paid within 60 days from the end of financial year (1st April – 31st March) for the sales made in the previous financial year. A royalty statement showing opening and closing stocks and sales of the books is provided to the author along with the payment. In case of Lump-sum Method a part is paid on signature of the agreement and balance after the publishing of the book.

How can the author make sure that the royalties paid are correct?
The author has the right to examine the sales after getting permission of the Publisher.

Does the author have a say in the publishing of the book?
The author has adequate amount of say in the publishing of the book. Both the publisher and author discuss what’s best for the book and how the book should be designed perfectly.

If B. Jain has rights to distribute the book only in a particular territory, how does it protect the author by not getting that book in other regions?

B. Jain works closely with the distributor and does not entertain any distributors that are involved in such activities of illegal exports. Moreover, B. Jain has already blacklisted many such distributors who have been found practicing such illegal activities and has filed suits against such companies.

Also, in any such cases, B. Jain prints a warning note on the book due to which at the time of custom clearance, these books are blocked from exporting abroad. At times, if there has been a greater risk of books getting illegally exported, then B. Jain works on pasting holograms on the book, supplied by the author and this further reduces the chances of getting the books illegally exported.
