About the Book
|
This book covers the general aspects of women’s health and the common diseases encountered after the
age of forty. There is a need for such a book in India so as to increase the awareness about women—in
understanding their body, ageing process and the disease states. Women above forty constitute a significant
proportion of the Indian population in future and majority, in this age group, are at their productive peaks as far
as family, career and societal aspects are concerned. With an increasing commercialization of medicine and
blurring of borders between disease and physiological age-related changes, there is an urgent need to
understand these issues. The book also covers issues related to common medical problems and cancer
which will help in increasing awareness and early detection of these ailments. Dr Anita has made efforts to
tailor the book to the general public. by Dr S.V.S. Deo, MS, FACS, FAI, Professor, Surgical Oncology, IRCH, AIIMS

About the Author
|
|
|
Dr. Anita Khokhar completed her MD in Preventive and
Social Medicine from Maulana Azad Medical College, in
1998 and then she did three years residency at Maulana
Azad Medical College, Delhi. Currently she is working
as an Associate Professor Vardhaman Mahavir Medical
College and Safdarjang Hospital. She started her work
in the field of preventive oncology that is early detection
of the breast cancer soon after seeing that more and
more number of young women in their thirties were
becoming victims of breast cancer. It was the urge to do
something for the community and to bring a very
sensitive issue to the forefront that motivated her to start
breast cancer awareness and early detection initiative.
Over the years a number of breast conditions have been
diagnosed and interventions done by her. It has been
more about empowering women for the rest of their lives
as the health care infrastructure of India cannot afford
to provide mammogram facility for the purpose of
screening to all. Now, she is in the process of making
more and more number of women breast aware and
taking the initiative ahead.

Editorial Reviews:
|
|
|
|
It is a comprehensively researched and written book which could be directed to a broad audience. There is a
general coverage of topics which would sit well with the public, and at the same time it would also provide
information which is useful to medical professionals like, myself, who do not have specialist knowledge in the
field of public health domains. Dr Khokhar has made a commendable effort in writing the story of a womans
life journey seen from the perspective of what makes up our physical bodies. She has also highlighted the
circumstances that surround us in this world, today, which have a life-long effect on our every function. I
congratulate Dr Khokhar once again on her great endeavour to describe simply the life story of a woman with
great understanding and empathy, and which will speak to all the readers. by Dr Sharon Singsit-Evans, Registrar, Brimigham, UK.

I have read the book and the chapter on the mental health and understand that it is a simplistic book pitched at
allied health and the general public by Aparna Chawla, Psychiatrist Registrar at Southern, Health Melbourne Area, Australia

Having gone through this manuscript, I find this a very comprehensive expose of the health issues facing
women. I find it extremely readable and written for a public audience. You have covered such a wide variety of
topics and thus, this would be a very useful reference for a wide swathe our communities. I would say this is
also good information that men need to be aware of to be able to truly comprehend the health issues faced by
their spouses, their daughters, and related others to be expansively aware of the health concerns that can
crop-up in a woman’s life. In all it is a wonderful piece of contribution to public health promotion. by Dr A. Sattar Yoosuf, Director,
Department of Sustainable Development and Healthy Environments, WHO, SEARO, Delhi.
